So you´re probably wondering why its been a marriage prep week... kind of like a first hands on experience of why I don't think I am ready to be a mom with sick kids... but lets get started.
Well the week started off with some harmless small sickness that we were a little under of the weather. But mom you´d be so proud- we just figured out how to make arroz con leche AND we made ourselves really yummy tea our of just boiling all these different herbs... they were really good!!
ANYWAY the days went on and Hermana Vasquez just wasn't getting any better- until about Friday we figured we could make it over to district Mtg and... SURE! Lets keep going cause we had to visit Martha (I´ll write her story below) But about half way through the lesson Hna Vasquez just starts shaking so we take a taxi back to our house and she quickly goes to bed. She had a pretty high fever the night before but we just thought it was a one time thing AND ya know... we´re just two 19 year old girls in Honduras so we just fly by the seat of our pants. What could possibly go wrong right?! (But don't worry dad... I do remember that no matter what kind of sickness it is the cure is to drink water... so I've been making her drink a ton!) So she slept for a bit and about an hour later I went to go take her temp again. It sounds less scary if I transfer it into Celsius. 40.5. You could probably just assume how I was feeling. If this is what I worried mom feels like... I´m sorry to have put you though this mom!! So we called the mission nurse, and the sister training leaders... and Hermana Fortuna at one point, and the Elders in our ward. (don't worry... we've been well checked up on... District Leaders and zone leaders kept calling too!)
So the 2 Elders in our ward dropped all of their appts and raced to our house to give her a priesthood blessing. I nee to say how powerful the priesthood is. I know without a doubt that it is the power to act in God´s name. There´s no way that 2 19 year old boys, that have only been out on their missions for 4 or 2 months, could have given a blessing like that. I know that it was a blessing given to my companion directly from her Heavenly Father, he loves her and knew her every need at that moment.
About 20 minutes later we checked her fever again and it had gone down to 101. Priesthood power is real and we have that actin power in our church today. the church Jesus Christ has this power to act in the Name of God. How could it not be true?
WE were given a bit of a scare cause we were told it was... well a disease that she didn't want... but we just go the test results back and they said it is nothing major so were hoping for just a virus. I´ll keep you updated!
SO my mom always told me that there are 3 Big D´s Divorce Death and Disease... Well we´re still companions so looked like we got through Divorce. we´re not really aiming for death here either. But disease... yeah I think I can take care of anything now!! Our goal is to be able to leave our house tomorrow!! Woo!! Long story short. All is well here in Honduras and my Companion says hi :)
Sorry its kind of a long email but I had to add this experience in too!!... So Hermana Vasquez and I found this awesome lady one of our first days here while trying to find her neighbor. Her name is Martha. Our first lesson with her and her husband was sort of awkward cause we didn't really know where to go but we shared a scripture in the Book of Mormon about Prayer and they kind of just stopped us and said... Wait where'd you get that book? OH BINGO! Well let me tell you... this is the book of books!! So basically we left a Book of Mormon and just left them the introduction to read.... it ended up being a pretty good lesson! SOOO we went back about 4 days later to check up on here last Tuesday- this is kind of how it went.
"Hey Hermana Hows it going... oh that's so great!... Yeah bring your book of mormon over here lets talk about it... yes yes it contains the fullness of the gospel... oh who´s Jose Smith? Yes he was a prophet of god... Oh you know that. Oh you kept reading onto his witness of the book of Mormon after the introduction. That is so great Hermana!! Wow ya let me tell you abou these plates that he found... that's so great hermana that you have this desire.... So now you can keep reading about this really great guy named Nephi... Oh you know about Nephi. HERMANA how far exactly have you read?......." 1 Nephi 14.
"Yeah Hermanas and my goal is to finish it." YES that is the goal. Good Goal. So we love Martha and we´re excited to see where she goes!!
Anyway I love you all so much. I'm sorry I gave you any anxiety mom... I am doing great here in Honduras. I love it so much!! I hope you all have the best week! just remember... I am definitely not ready to be married. The priesthood power is real. And yes. the Goal is to finish the Book of Mormon!
LOVE YOU!
Hermana Nelson
